John B. Ross
John B. Ross has over 30 years experience in business operations, law and management, specializing in the needs and workings of smaller companies. Mr. Ross’s career has included positions in public and privately held companies, state and Federal government, as well as private law firms.
Since 2008, Mr. Ross has been engaged in business projects, consulting, volunteer work and writing, and he serves as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Emerging Technology Centers advising early stage companies in resolving a multitude of challenges.
Prior to 2008, Mr. Ross served for over 12 years as Vice President and General Counsel for Williams Scotsman International, Inc., a company headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, that sold and leased modular buildings, mobile offices and storage containers throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. Mr. Ross managed the operations, legal and risk management functions and also served as the company’s corporate secretary. In addition, Mr. Ross led due diligence teams which reviewed the books, records and business practices of over 30 companies, most of which were acquired by Williams Scotsman International, Inc. More than tripling in size during Mr. Ross’s tenure, Williams Scotsman International became a publicly-traded company in 2005.
Prior to joining Williams Scotsman International, Mr. Ross served as Special Assets Counsel for Maryland National Bank and American Security Bank, where he helped those institutions recover over $1.8 billion from defaulted leases and loans. Also, Mr. Ross worked for over eight years at a sister company, MNC Credit Corp, where he served as Vice President of Operations and Corporate Counsel, guiding that company in building a substantial portfolio of tax-motivated equipment leases and loans.
In addition to his business experience, Mr. Ross has practiced law in Maryland and in North Carolina, where he was a partner in the Raleigh firm of Hatch, Little and Bunn. He has also served as a supply officer in the U. S. Navy, a systems analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank, and a budget analyst for the Georgia Legislature.
Mr. Ross holds a law degree from Wake Forest University, a Masters degree (economics) from Georgia State University, and a Bachelors degree (economics) from Georgetown University. Mr. Ross is licensed to practice law in both Maryland and in North Carolina.
