Throw was an Official Selection of the 2016 Mountainfilm in Telluride, taking home the Director’s Choice Award for the festival.
The 10-minute documentary unfurls Coffin Nachtmahr’s story about finding his place through the unlikely pursuit of yo-yoing. Growing up in East Baltimore, he never felt like he fit in, until he discovered a subculture of yo-yo “throwers.” Using a simple toy and doing something he loved, Coffin found purpose, acceptance and community. He now helps others find a creative and social outlet by sharing the very toy that inspired him.
The screening will be followed by a special yo-yo performance by Coffin as well as a short Q&A with the film directors, David Larson and Darren Durlach.
